Last year Jennifer spent a month at Cove Park researching the geometric designs of Sanquhar knitting patterns
Jennifer has collaborated with a team of knitters in the town of Sanquhar who have translated the traditional hand knit patterns into electronic machine knit programmes. Together they have produced a capsule collection of knitwear and a small selection of the items are now available to purchase online.
Each piece is knitted to order in Sanquhar by the ladies at A’ the Airts - Upper Nithsdale’s Arts and Crafts Community Centre. Earlier this year the work was exhibited at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture, and the exhibition text can be read here. This is part of an ongoing project which we hope shines a light on a disappearing textile tradition and helps to ensure that Sanquhar knitting survives into the 21st century and beyond.
